She is the product of her mother's rape by her vampire father, the Overlord Kagan, who later murdered her mother and her family so that Rayne would have no one to turn to but him. Instead, she was found and cared for by Professor Trumain, a vampire hunter who raised her as his daughter and taught her to be a strong-willed assassin. As of 1932, she had spent her teenage years trying to hunt down and kill her father, to get revenge for her slaughtered family. It was this search that led her to Europe, where she carved a path of destruction along the way before being apprehended. Claiming that the people she killed, as well as her father who was still at large had been vampires, she was disbelieved by the authorities, but quickly managed to escape from them and continue her hunt. She was later recruited into the mysterious Brimstone Society, a top-secret fraternity dedicated to hunting down and eliminating supernatural threats to mankind; things that ordinary people shouldn't have to deal with. In the years between the World Wars, Agent BloodRayne worked as a killing machine for the Brimstone Society. One of these missions required her to prevent the Nazis from using magical artifacts to resurrect the demon Beliar and bring Hitler to power, leading her to Louisiana, Argentina, and finally to Castle Gaustadt in Germany. It was believed by the Nazis that Beliar was the original devil, torn apart by Lucifer when he fell from Heaven, scattering every part of his body around the Earth. In actuality Beliar was a fallen angel himself, turned demon and a minion of the devil. These unholy relics retained some of his power, granting their owners supernatural abilities. Kagan, having become an influential Nazi collaborator, was killed in an accident near the end of the war. Cheated of killing Kagan herself, Rayne spent the next seventy years hunting down his children - her half-siblings - evening the score: his family for hers. Kagan's many offspring and their minions have banded together and formed the multi-national Cult Of Kagan, pledging to carry on his legacy of creating a new era of vampire supremacy where humans are mere cattle for the bloodthirsty predators that hunt them. Personality-wise, Rayne's thought processes are very complex. She can seem cold, aloof, and even callous at times. She is blood-thirsty, ruthless, kills without mercy, derives great pleasure and fun from death and destruction, and often behaves rather sadistically, decapitating and dismembering her opponents. She is sardonic and uncaring towards her own victims - even though she once stated that she "doesn't approve of senseless killing." In her heart she believes that she is destroying people and things that don't deserve to live on this planet, exacting a small vengeance on the vampire race and the other dark forces out there with every single one of them she does away with. Rayne is intelligent, cynical, witty, sarcastic, independent, and may appear apathetic by her tone of voice. She is also rather cocky and flirtatious, frequently taunting, belittling, and conversing with her opponents before killing them. As Severin would normally be her liaison with Brimstone and provider of information, he also acts as Rayne's conscience in a few instances, admonishing her to care (or at least stop pretending NOT to care) about the very humans being slaughtered by the monsters she's killing. |
